Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is a must if you're planning to travel to a foreign country.
There are several types of foreign travel insurance and may cover:
- Travel delays
- Cancellations
- Travel interruptions
- Medical emergencies - accidents, injuries, illnesses.
- Lost of baggage - theft, misplaced by airlines, etc..
- Other unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters - tsunami, earthquakes, volcano eruptions, floods.
If you're travelling in a group, you can apply for a group travel insurance. Insurance types include medical insurance, group insurance, personal accidents insurance, foreign travel insurance and specific insurance such as insurance for terrorism.
Why You Need Foreign Travel Insurance
Other than the reasons mentioned above, you have to be aware that you are entering a different country, that may be extremely unfamiliar and not similar to the circumstances you are used to. Foreign travel insurance will protect you from unforeseen events that you may encounter on your trip.
If you plan to engage in high-risk activities such as aerial sports (para-gliding, parachuting), water-sports (jet-skiing, white-water rafting), mountain-climbing and even jungle-trekking, you will need some form of personal protection coverage or other specific insurance coverage for yourself.
It is unadvisable to engage in such activities without insurance and some companies may not allow you to engage in a certain sport without proper coverage.
The recent Asian Tsunami in December 2004 caused terrible destruction and death and is proof that even if you're far from the main cause of the disaster, you can still be affected. You can never be too sure when such tragedies will struck.
Thankfully, Malaysia is a relatively peaceful country and the natural disasters are mostly floods and heavy rains.
