Paka Beach

Paka Beach is located in Paka, Terengganu. Paka is a small town located less than 20km south of Dungun Town. Paka is well-known as an oil-town as some of the Malaysian petroleum processing plants and support services are located in this area.

If you're driving:
To reach Paka from Kuala Lumpur, take the New East Coast Highway heading towards Kuantan, Pahang.
Then head north towards Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu.
Before you reach the borders of Terengganu, you will pass by Cherating Beach. Take a quick detour there if you want.
As you drive along the road, you will see a large gateway portal that says you've entered the state of Terengganu. Drive until you reach Kemaman town.
In Kemaman, the highway will suddenly turn to the right. Follow the sign heading towards Kuala Terengganu.
You will pass by Kijal and Kemasik (two other beach spots) and reach Kerteh, another petroleum processing town.
In Kerteh, you'll see a large McDonald's restaurant on your right. Have your meal there if you're hungry (as it's one of the few McD's in the state).
Around 15km or so north of Kerteh, you'll reach Paka. Follow the road till you see a sign that says Paka Residence Resort on your right.
Take that road towards the Resort. To the right of the Resort is a small road that leads to Paka Beach. By this time, you can see the beach and the sea, so you won't miss it.
Alternatively, you can park at the Paka Residence Resort, have your meal there, book a room for the night and go to Paka beach which is just behind the hotel.

If you're taking the Express Bus:
Go to the Hentian Putra Bus Station in Kuala Lumpur.
Buy a bus ticket to Paka, Terengganu.
We recommend that you buy tickets from the bigger and well-known bus companies such as Transnasional, Mara-Liner or Mutiara Express.
The bus ride will be between 4 1/2 hours to 6 hours, depending on weather and traffic conditions.
Refrain from taking cheaper bus tickets from bus companies that I did not recommend or you'll end up with an 8-hour trip on a not-so-comfortable bus that breaks down half-way across Pahang (I know because I made that mistake!).
Enjoy the scenery that you'll pass by - trees, hills, trees, beaches and trees again with scattered towns and villages along the way.
The bus will usually make two stops (for lunch and toilet breaks).
Once in the state of Pahang and one more stop just after you cross the Terengganu border.
When you've passed by the McDonald's restaurant in Kerteh,
Please remind the bus driver that you're getting off at Paka.
Tell him that you'd like to drop off near the Paka Bus Stop that's nearest to the Paka Residence Resort.
He'll probably drop you off at the bus stop in front of Klinik Zahriah (a local clinic) or in front of the Warisan Bondan resturant (previously known as Aneka Selera) restaurant, which is a local eatery.
Or you can tell him to drop you off at the bus stop in front of Klinik Zahriah, after the traffic lights.
Either way is fine, because, once you get off the bus, if you walk just along the road that you got off (heading towards Kuala Terengganu), you'll reach a sign board that says Paka Residence Resort is on your right.
If you are still confused, just ask the local when you reach Paka as it's the only seaside resort there.
Take the small road that leads to Paka Residence Resort. Behind the Resort is Paka Beach.
Try not to sleep on the bus, after you've reached the Terengganu borders, or you'll drive pass by Paka and end up in Dungun. If you do miss Paka, take the bus all the way to Dungun. Then you can rent a taxi or another bus back to Paka.
Do not FORGET to get your bags or luggage from the bus luggage compartment when you get off.

If you're taking the Flight from Kuala Lumpur:
You'll be boarding a flight from KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) to Kuantan, Pahang.
When you reach Kuantan Airport, you can take a taxi to Paka (it'll cost you around US$20 or RM80). The journey will take around 2-3 hours.
Tell the taxi driver to drop you off at Paka Residence Resort or the beach behind Paka Residence Resort.
Or take a bus from Kuantan to Paka (see the bus trip explanation from above).

What you'll see in Paka Beach :
1.)The beach.
2.)The South China Sea (water tend to change colour from aqua-marine, blue, dark blue to greyish blue).
3.)Local food stalls along the beach selling 'Keropok Lekor' which is the local 'fish sausage' eaten with a sweet hot chili dip.

Activities on Paka Beach :
1.)Beach walks.
2.)Eating 'Keropok Lekor'.
3.)Watching local fishermen come back with their catch.
4.)Swimming in the sea is NOT recommended, as the sea can get rough and the sand beds tend to slope deeply and suddenly.

Beach Rating: 4/10
Reasons:
1.)There are cartons, bottles, plastic bags and other rubbish on the beach. The local authorities should clean up the beach and prevent others from making it a dumping site. The beach is a beautiful place, if not for the rubbish.
