Malaysia wildlife is as exotic as it gets - giant tropical snakes, tapirs, bearcats (binturong), orangutans, exotic birds such as the Sarawak hornbill - to name a few. The lush evergreen forest of Peninsular Malaysia and Borneo are the habitat of many endangered species, their forest canopy home since ancient times. Malaysia has an abundance of wildlife, not only in the jungles, rivers and lakes but also wildlife that has adapted to modernisation and development. Take a drive behind the Kelab Darul Ehsan (KDE) area in Ampang and you may spot a wild monkey or two. Residents in Terengganu are familiar with the sights of wild boars, monkeys and lizards roaming around housing estates. In Sarawak, you might spot a small snake or a rare beetle in your garden. As more and more human activities encroach onto land that were once habitats of these creatures, it is no wonder that they learn to adapt and co-habit with us, whether we like it or not. Modernisation and encroachment causes more trees and jungles to be vanquished. Many species of animals and plants are destroyed by logging activities, rapid development and construction. Visit wildlife sanctuaries in Malaysia to show your support for the conservation of Malaysia Wildlife.
