Kuraman Island

Pulau Kuraman is situated south of Labuan Island, Malaysia. Kuraman is a small idyllic place, with soft sands and clear sea. There are a few fishing villages on the island, but tourist come to Kuraman for diving and snorkelling activities.

Even near the shores of Kuraman, you can go snorkelling and watch tiny fishes swim amidst the seaweeds. Some parts of the beaches are littered with large rocks, but the area where tourist boats dock is filled with warm sand and is great for snorkelling and swimming.

The waters near the beach are not too deep and it's better to snorkel near waters with seaweed, corals and sheltered areas as these are where most fishes are.

You can bring your own meat to barbecue on the beach as barbecue areas are provided. Though food and drinks are available, it is recommended that you bring your own provisions as the goods on Kuraman can be slightly expensive.

There are several local fishing villages if you walk further up from the main beach however, please do not walk bare-footed on the beaches near the villages as there are broken glasses and bottles in that area. It is fine to walk bare-footed at the main tourist beach area as it's cleaner there.

You can do your own jungle-trekking or island-exploring thing on Kuraman island but be sure to have mosquito repellants and bring plenty of mineral water to drink. It is advised that you do not stray too far inland into the jungle without a local guide as you may get lost. Most of the jungles inland are local plantations. So, it's better to stick to the beach and main tourist areas.

Overall, if you love snorkelling, diving, swimming in the sea or just having a barbecue with friends on the beach, pulau Kuraman is the place to be.
