Orangutan Sanctuary
The Orangutan Sanctuary of Bukit Merah Laketown was built on an island to allow the orangutans to roam free. You need to take a boat-ride from the main Bukit Merah tourist area and once you arrive, a guide will take you on a tour of the sanctuary.
The sanctuary is designed in such a way that visitors will be the ones in a 'cage' whereas the orangutans are free to roam around the island. There is an orangutan nursery for newborns and the orangutans are grouped in stages, according to their age and maturity.
