Malaysian Bigfoot Interview

MATA Team: We would like to thank Mawasee the Malaysian Mawas or Bigfoot for granting us this interview. So, Mawasee, how's it like to be the famous Malaysian Bigfoot?

Mawasie: Actually, I'm NOT the ONLY mawas in Malaysia. There are some other bigfoots in the jungles of Borneo, near the Kenyir Lake areas in Terengganu and other national parks.

MATA Team: If there are so many of you, how come it's extremely difficult to find you and your kind?

Mawasie: Actually it's politically correct to refer us as a tribe, you know. We share like 99.999% of our genes with humans. Well, my tribe's kind of shy, we prefer to stay in the deepest of jungles. We're nature-lovers. We prefer the calm serenity of the wilderness. We're also specialists in camouflage and disguise. Heck, there was one time I even had a chance to visit the Midvalley Megamall in KL to watch King Kong...

MATA Team: And no one noticed that you, a mawas, was walking around the shopping centre and watching movies at the cineplex?

Mawasie: Like I said, we're excellent at camouflage and disguises.

MATA Team: So, you watched King Kong?

Mawasie: Yeah, it was okay. Peter Jackson's good at what he does. But I think the Lord of the Rings Trilogy had more depth to it, if you get what I mean...

MATA Team: Do you think King Kong ever existed?

Mawasie: Of course not! Do you think I'm a fool?! King Kong is a fictional character from comics and the movies.

MATA Team: Hmm...okay. What about your views on the polluted rivers in Selangor?

Mawasie: Of course, I feel mad! I used to fish in the rivers in that area. I remember my younger days, as a young chimp, how I used to follow my father and uncle to Kuala Selangor to gather small fish and wild bananas. We used to love watching the fireflies at night. It was really beautiful...

MATA Team: So, what have you and your tribe done for the environment?

Mawasie: You're asking ME that question?! It's you humans who chop down the rainforest, pollute the rivers and seas and pour concrete onto land so that no plants will ever grow on it again! What have WE done for mother nature?! We replant the trees, we try to clean up your mess in the rivers and lakes. So far, it's been slow progress. There's too much rubbish everywhere!

MATA Team: Sorry for that. Let me rephrase that question. So, your tribe has been doing all the eco-friendly work?

Mawasie: Well, we can't take all the credit. There have been some nice humans who care about mother nature like we do. They've also set up forest reserves, animal sanctuaries and replanting projects. They know about us but they keep their mouths shut because they know about the good work we've done.

MATA Team: What's your plan for the future?

Mawasie: Personally, I'd like to go to Hollywood. But, speaking as a tribe, we'd like to see more jungle areas being designated as National Parks, less de-forestration, cleaner lakes and rivers, stricter punishments for illegal logging and pollution - the basic eco-stuff. Our cousins, the Mer-mawas (or sea-bigfoots) would like less human fishing activities near the coral reefs and of course, stop sea pollution.

MATA Team: There are Mer-bigfoots?

Mawasie: Yes. But don't go off to find them. The world's seas and oceans are even bigger than the jungles. And deeper.

MATA Team: Well, that's all the time we have for now. Thank you so much, Mawasie, for letting us come to your home in Endau-Rompin and granting us the chance to interview you. Do you have any last words to say for the folks out there?

Mawasie: Well, only five words, like that movie Leo DiCaprio was in, "Catch Me If You Can".
